This article is an update describing what is new.-IntroductionOppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is a psychiatric behavior disorder that is characterized by aggressiveness and a tendency to purposefully bother and irritate others. These behaviors cause significant difficulties with family and friends and at school or work.-DescriptionOppositional defiant children show a consistent pattern of refusing to follow commands or requests by adults. These children repeatedly lose their temper, argue with adults, and refuse to comply with rules and directions. They are easily annoyed and blame others for their mistakes. Children with ODD show a pattern of stubbornness and frequently test limits, even in early childhood.These children can be manipulative and often induce discord in those around them. Commonly they turn attention away from themselves by inciting parents and other family members to fight with one and other.-Behavioral SymptomsNormal children occasionally have episodes of defiant behavior, particularly during ages of transition such as 2 to 3 or the teenage years where the child uses defiance in an attempt to assert himself. Children who are tired, hungry, or upset may be defiant. Oppositional defiant behavior is a matter of degree and frequency. Half of the preschoolers that are labeled ODD are normal by the age of 8. However, in older ODD children, 75% will still fulfill the diagnostic criteria later in life.The ODD may turn into something else. 5-10% of preschoolers with ODD have their diagnosis changed from ODD to ADHD. In some children, the defiant behavior gets worse and these children eventually are diagnosed with Conduct Disorder at addadhdadvances.com/CDtest.html. This progression usually happens fairly early. If a child has ODD for 3-4 years and he hasn't developed Conduct Disorder, then he wont ever develop it. The child may continue to have ODD without any thing else. This is unusual. By the time preschoolers with ODD are 8 years old, only 5% have ODD and nothing else.The child develops other disorders in addition to ODD. This is very common.-Treatment: Medical InterventionThere have been some recent studies that have examined the effects of certain medications on Oppositional Defiant Disorder. All the research is preliminary and just suggests that certain treatments may help.One study examined the use of Ritalin to treat children with both ADHD and ODD. This study found that 90% of the children treated with Ritalin no longer had the ODD by the end of the study. The researchers skewed the results a bit because a number of children were dropped from the study because they wouldn't comply with the treatment regimen. Still if these children are included as treatment failures the study still showed a 75% success rate.There have been two studies examining the effect of Strattera on children with both ADHD and ODD. One study showed that Strattera helped with ODD, one study showed it did not help.There was a large Canadian study that showed that Risperdal helped with aggressive behavior in children with below normal intelligence. It did not matter if the child had ADHD or not. There was study showing that 80% of children with explosive behavior improved when given the mood stabilizer, divalproex.There was another pilot study examining the use of Omega-3 oils and vitamin E in ODD children. Both helped the ODD behavior to some degree.-Treatment: Psychological InterventionParent management training is still viewed as the main treatment for Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Considering that Ritalin may help alleviate the problem in 75-90% of ODD children who have ADHD, and considering that most children with ODD also have some degree of ADHD, I feel that it is very worth your while to try your ODD child on Ritalin unless you know for sure that he does not have ADHD. The other treatments may also be worth a try depending upon the nature of your child.I feel that using Omega-3 supplements and a vitamin E supplement should be tried in all children. This is because most children are deficient in these nutrients. Even if it does not help with the ODD, it should make your child healthier.Parent training is still the most effective means of dealing with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The two main drawbacks of most of these programs are the expense and the availability.Some practitioners charge $100 or more per visit and considering the program will take several months costs add up. Insurance usually will not pay for such programs. Many parents complain to me that they can not afford the program that their child so desperately needs.In addition, these programs are not available everywhere. On the other hand for those that are not making money it is because of a deep-seated doubt, I think, not of belief in the system, but of a lack of belief in their own abilities. As a result the opposite affect is instilled and the perpetual doubt is reinforced each time that a desire to go forward is not followed-up by any action that results in even a small amount of positive reinforcement that leads the individual to believe that they are capable of reaching the desired goal. Where Are Your Articles Being Published There are a few software directory software programs in the marketplace. Some are great, some are good, and some stink to high heaven, for the writer and for the website owners.

In an ideal world, all article management software would be easy-to-use for the webmaster. Also in an ideal world, the submission process would be fast and easy for the writer. But, this is not an ideal world.

In today's article hungry marketplace, there are literally hundreds of websites where you can submit your articles.

Three Types of Article Directories

There are three kinds of article directories:

* Stand-Alone Directories of Articles Available for Reprint
* Stand-Alone Directories of Articles Available for Reading
* Article Directories Inside of a Website, with Articles Available for Reading

With these different kinds of directories, you will find different categories of webmasters. This distinction is more important than you think.

* Corporate Owners
* Independent Online Business Webmasters
* Hobbyist Webmasters

Personally, I own two article directories. One has nearly 2500 articles in it, and the other has nearly 5000 articles in it.

Both of mine are of the first type, Stand-Alone Directories of Articles Available for Reprint. But, I am not a corporate owner. I am an independent online business webmaster.

The reason why the type of owner is important is that the type of owner will determine where your articles will be published today AND tomorrow.

Corporate owners have a bottomless supply of web server space available to them. In the corporate category, these directories are the most important:

Directory Owner Budgets

Most new article directory owners have a small budget for web hosting, and therefore, they have a limited amount of web server hard drive space.

Most of these new directory owners have jumped into their website with both feet hoping to cash in on their Google Adsense revenue.

After a few months, the truth will crash them into the wall.

On , I have more than 4500 articles live. I have another 1000 articles pending my approval. Generally, it takes 30 seconds to approve one article. So, the articles currently pending on this site will require an investment of another 8.5 hours to bring up-to-date Peuterey outlet. One day a couple of weeks back, I spent 19 straight hours approving articles on this site. I am not going to stop taking submissions to this article directory site, but it does require a lot of my time to maintain.

Perhaps I am exceptional. I will spend the hours required to approve articles, but will the next person?

I started this site with a basic account. I have had to upgrade my web hosting package three times to be able to continue accepting articles to the site. Will the next person make this kind of commitment?

The payoff for operating a website like this one is the Adsense revenue developed from hosting such a wide range of content on the website. In the case of the website, I am currently generating only $40 per month on my Adsense account. Will the next person consider this a fair trade of time for money? Likely not.

I Know This Is My Business, But Don't Take My Word For It

At various times, I submit articles to various directories. The distinction of "at various times" is actually important. Websites that were accepting direct submissions from me six months ago are no longer accepting submissions from anyone.

Writers want to believe that they can just crank out hundreds of articles, generating hundreds of links back to their websites. Sometimes they can, and at other times, they cannot.

It comes down to this. Every website where I submit articles has a human moderator at the other end of the transaction, and they have the right to choose what materials they will use and what materials they will not use. Each webmaster can also consider whether the time required for the approval process will help their bottom line.

These big article directories no longer accept articles from anyone. Also shown is the last date an article was added to the site.

And I learned that not only do 79% of these editors find their sources and their story ideas from blogs -- a healthy number start their day by reading their favorites. Use pictures. I think they make the blog seem more readable, and appealing to the visual types. I get good fr.ee.graphics from Google (just click the Images link after you do a search.) Also there are some great cheap shots to be head from which are only one dollar apiece.7. Lots of links in posts. It's not only blog etiquette, it's a way to attract SE spiders and bots to your blog posts. They love content rich blogs with lots of outgoing links.8. Write with brevity. I'm working in this. Make shorter, more frequent posts to drive SE traffic. And keep your blog as casual and 'free wheeling' as it's meant to be.9. Typelists -- copy in the margins -- that have visuals and important short captions drive traffic to site. I get a great sales conversion rate from my blog because people like my product shots in the margin. Small, snappy covers will do with a bit of short descriptive copy.10. Audio clips. Are Paid Autosurf Programs Dead Not quite, but they certainly did take a huge blow last month thanks to Stormpay. Stormpay is a payment processor much like PayPal. The only difference being Stormpay routinely took money for these paid autosurf programs, advertised them to their members through their Stormclix program, and then later froze all the accounts of these programs and then started methodically taking money from peoples accounts who were investing in them. How a payment processor can one day be promoting these companies to us and the next day freezing accounts and taking money was unbelievable.We all love the idea of working from home and making money online, and using these paid autosurf programs were a great way for many of us to achieve those goals. But some of these programs were offering very high returns and there was no way so many of them could sustain such high payouts without recruiting new members. By definition, this is a pyramid scheme or Ponzi and they are illegal.Since this industry shakeup, the FBI and the SEC are now investigating these suspect paid autosurf programs and also Stormpay. This has caused much pain in the paid autosurf industry and has forced many programs to go out of business or change their business policies. This could actually turn out to be a good thing, since most programs were pyramid or Ponzi schemes to begin with Parajumpers. These latest developments have forced many of these programs to disappear earlier than they would have liked and potentially saved many investors a lot of money they would have lost otherwise.So where does this leave the paid autosurf industry? As you can imagine, many will move offshore to continue business and get outside the reach of the SEC and others will conform to the new regulations to stay in business. As of this writing, many autosurf programs have changed to manual surf programs. That means instead of just clicking a surf button and walking away for 5 or 10 minutes, the surfer is actually required to view and manually click a link that moves on to the next website advertisement. This makes sense and in the end, will be more beneficial to the advertisers paying money to have their websites viewed by surfing members.As for more programs moving their companies offshore and out of the reach of U.S authorities like the SEC or FBI, I would recommend not doing business with any of these companies. If they dont have to answer to anyone, then why wouldnt they just pack up one day and steal your money?It seems the paid surf industry is evolving and it looks like its for the better. The days of the paid autosurf will be going away and the paid manual surf programs appear to be taking their place. This will be a big benefit to advertisers as well as the companies generating income from these advertising dollars. We will also see the insanely high return rates promised by these paid programs to come down to earth which will be a huge boom to this industry. Keep away from the programs that promise very high returns and are based out of the U.S. Chances are almost certain you will lose your money with these programs. Be smart with your money and never invest in any program, online and off, with money you cant afford to lose.
